Fruit Fly & Drain Fly Treatment
Fruit Flies and Drain Flies do not bite, but can be annoying in the house, often found clinging to the walls of bathrooms, kitchens, or in the basement.
They breed near decaying potatoes, fruits, vegetables, flower bulbs, baked goods containing yeast, beverages (beer, pop and fruit juices), and vinegar.
Occasionally found in small quantities of milk, catsup, juice or pop left in empty bottles and in sour dishcloths and mops. Attracted to very ripe or damaged fruit in the field, in food establishments or fermentation processing establishments, the flies lay their eggs. Primarily a problem in food establishments and fruit farms. Food processing in exposed situations becomes more susceptible to infestation and so do brewery establishments because of fermentation.
Application Control
To eliminate flies, a total sanitation program must be undertaken. Standing water, food waste, and other potential breeding areas must be cleaned up. Once that is accomplished, the primary breeding areas (drains) can be attacked. Pouring hot water down the drain provides short-term control. Drain fly larvae are difficult to drown because they are able to trap air bubbles and remain submerged for a day or more. DO NOT put any insecticide into drains. As a comprehensive control measure for all situations including home, yard and garden insect pests use the special three-dimensional program from Bugcon. Disposal of infested items is generally sufficient to eliminate them. A Pyrethrin and Permitherin spray is all that is required to eliminate the adults.
Control of drain flies should be aimed at control of the breeding sites. The most effective control method is to treat with glx sanitation. The treatment targets where the flies breed.

DO NOT put any insecticide into drains. Regular use will prevent drain flies and eliminate their ability to reproduce.

Chemical insecticides are not commonly used to treat this pest. However, to manage infestation in food processing establishments treat with Zep Ultimate or Bugcon Ultimate Plus for chronic infestations.

In non-food areas use Super Bug Buster (liquid) and Zep Exterminator Both the products are surface treatments and are not to be used as space sprays.

Pyrethrin product Zep Harvest Formula can also be dispensed through automatic Zep 3000 dispenser. Suggested for industrial and commercial applications, the product is recommended for food establishments by Food and Drug administration.

ZEP Pest Trap PLUS is a powerful and innovative device that sucks up pesky flies. Powered with a special heavy glue coating on one side on the inside of the trap and a sponged strap on the internal bottom side, it contains no chemicals.
